Doctrine and Beliefs
The following
articles critically examine Revival Centre teachings. Most of these articles
were written specifically for ex-members of the Revival Centres by other ex-members or concerned parties.
These articles are divided into 2 main strands: Bible based articles and non-Bible based articles(including history etc.).
Some of these articles argue against the Revival Centres from a Christian
point of view while some argue from a non-religious stance.
Bible Based Articles
-
The Good News or the Bad News? (also available in
French,
Spanish, and
German) - Is the Revival Centre 'tongues gospel' out of line? Is 'you
must speak in tongues to be saved' really the gospel?
-
Why Tongues? - What do all the tongues of fire and different languages
mean in Acts 2? Were they meant to be a continuing sign or 'proof' of an individual's
salvation today?

evidence of whether someone is a Christian or not.

Salvation in Acts - Revivalists often rattle off the accounts of salvation from Acts that make mention of tongues, but what of the accounts that don't mention tongues?
-
Faith - Revivalists don't believe in salvation by faith, they are taught
salvation by tongues.
-
Mark 16 and the Revival Centres - An article on the Revival Fellowship web
site discusses a disputed section of Mark 16. The article is anonymous, and
seems to have been written by a layman with little knowledge of the ancient
texts. American Bible translator Michael Hore has read the article, and we are
privileged to include his appraisal here.
-
Shunning in the Revival Centres - The Revival Centres are among the
religious groups that practice extreme shunning of former members. Of all the Revival
Centres’ legalistic doctrines, this one is perhaps the most responsible for
uprising among former members.
-
A Pastor's Authority - Revival Centre pastors wield enormous power over their 'flock'.
Yet Jesus said that true disciples are to be servants of one another and
the greatest is the one who is servant of all.
-
There is Forgiveness! - One Revival Centre group (RCI) expels 'fornicators
and adulterers' without possibility of return to
fellowship. However, Scripture indicates that a sincere confession of our sins to the Lord will bring us
cleansing.
-
The Four Main Approaches to Understanding the Book of Revelation - Over the last 1900 years, four primary understandings of the Book
of Revelation have developed - the Idealist, Preterist,
Historicist and Futurist viewpoints.
-
Alcohol and the Revival Centres - Revival Centre people who drink any alcohol can be
disfellowshiped. Those who teach that Christians can drink in
moderation are ridiculed at Revival Centre meetings.
-
Adam the First Man - Arguments against the Revival Centre teaching that Adam was not the first man.
-
Please Consider - A series of conservative Christian articles arguing against Revival Centre
teachings. Some of these articles were written by a former RCI pastor.

Revival Centres Answered Verse by Verse - A large collection of mini articles
organised by scripture verse with an
analysis of the Revival Centre position.

Biblical Errancy - Is the Bible the 'perfect' Word of God? The Revival
Centres (and many fundamentalist groups) think so. This series of articles
argues against this belief.
non-Bible Based Articles
-
Salvation Through History - An article which exposes the Revival Centre
teaching as a recent man-made fabrication
- with no historical support.
-
A Response to 2000 Years of Tongues - In several of their pamphlets, such as 2000 Years of Tongues and Speaking in Tongues is Bible
Evidence of the Holy Spirit Baptism the Revival Centres try to show that prominent
Church figures throughout the ages have preached that tongues are needed for
salvation. This article systematically goes through each reference, explaining
the problems with the quotes used. Following this letter, the pamphlet in question was removed from the NZ RCI
web site.
-
Racism and the Revival Centres Movement - True adherence to these British-Israel concepts gives religious
credence to a set of racial ideals. The two most startling effects of British-Israelism
within the Revival Centres are racial superiority and anti-Semitism.
-
The History of the Formulation of British-Israelism and its
Adoption by the Revival Centres Movement - Many streams of history and belief converge into the Revival Centres movement
to make it the unique religious group it is today. One of the streams that has helped to form the Revival Centres comes directly from
the British-Israel movement.
-
The British-Israel Myth - Here is the online version of Nick Greer's detailed book
on the problems with British-Israel. You need the Acrobat Reader to view this file.

Cheops could not have been the Lord's handiwork.
-
Is the King James the only Blessed Bible? - Groups such as the
Revival Centres say that the King James alone
is 'God's Bible', or that other versions are 'New Age' versions.
In many cases, the real reason that these groups prefer the King James
is that some of their doctrines can only be defended by using mistranslations
in the King James.
-
The Revival Centres and the Bible - Although Revivalists seem to strongly affirm the
Bible as important, they reject
scholarship and formal study at theological institutions believing that the Holy
Spirit will guide them into correct doctrine.
-
Jesus and the Revival Centres - In the last forty years,
the Revival Centre Christology has evolved from an orthodox view to a somewhat
unique perspective. Whilst once advocating the deity of Jesus, the RCI now teach
he is somewhat less than God.

clearly demonstrate the influence of the early National Revival Crusade on the Revival Centre beliefs, document the evolution of these doctrines and finally how
they are presented by the modern Revival Centres International.
